Fangning He – Talking Patterns

Task2 was a very rewarding assignment for me, I went to some art galleries and got inspired by them. In the process, I would observe the details of the artworks, from a distance and from close up, which gave me a different feeling, such as the brush strokes or the delicate details of the artist’s carvings, which made me feel inspired in a different way. When I don’t know how to develop a design further, I try to change my perspective, for example by extracting the colours of the artwork, painting a sheet of paper and then tearing it out to make some collage, when I paint with watercolour I deliberately make the paint wet, when the colours are not dry, the random interplay of the overlapping colours and the previous colours is very interesting. These uncertainties make my work more unique and interesting. Using Photoshop to change colours is also a useful way to give my designs a different visual feel. In the future, I will be more conscious of the way I look at things and the angles I use, as different angles and approaches can give me more inspiration.

When I first saw your work, I really think u have a good ability to combine extremely different colors together, I really enjoy the combination of purple blue and yellow which makes your images have strong visual effect. And also I really like the idea of tearing paper to make collage which is a quite creative and experimental way. Besides I do appreciate your image 1 in task 2 you painted watercolor with very wet brush and combine this with delicate line which really brings this image to live and it was like “broke the rule”.
However, you are really good at stacking color blocks and repeating things make them into a good printing image. In your task 1 image 3, I really like the contract of big circles and tiny circles and the light yellow color which seems very positive. What’s more, I like the way you observe different food, the chilis and the oranges, you turned them into a great image in abstract manner. Also you have a good sense of observing details
around you just as your first 2 images in task 1 you drew the details of curtains and your window.
I especially like your image 8 in task 1 which is a fantastic image, the colors are so soft and comfortable,i was really impressed by the traces left by watercolor and still I like your combination of blue purple and yellow.
