Georgia Lenchner- ‘Talking colour’

Before I had started this task, I became excited to experiment with different styles and techniques of using colour. As I knew it would assist me to build and explore other styles of artwork. I had become comfortable with using watercolour and fine liners to create any artistic pieces. Therefore, I used and explored mediums such as: acrylic, oil pastels, charcoal, coloured pencils and different coloured pens. I have used many of these before to experiment with, but never perused them.

This task has made me more open with ways I can express and show off my use of colour. I still used watercolour and fine liners but focussed primarily on other mediums. I drew glass, reflective buildings in London, using charcoal in tonal/ dark colours. It allowed the appearance to have depth and feeling, as it was also a quick sketch. I learnt that sketches can be effective as well as spending time on a painting/ drawing. I was able to explore the balance of colour and the idea that every technique works differently.

Another image I produced was a ‘bubble’ experiment. I used blue acrylic paint and mixed it in with water and fairy liquid, to then get a straw and blow bubbles onto a yellow piece of card. This worked well as an abstract replica of the bubbles I viewed in a bath.

Overall, this activity has got my creative mind thinking and open to more mediums and styles of work. It has also taught me to be selective of colours and tones in the future, to create a strong image.
