Fangning He – Talking Colour

I think the first task about colour is a process of me to enter the state of learning and develop colours and inspiration . I started by observing things around me . Like lace curtains and orchids in the sun , oranges and kumquats stacked together on supermarket shelves , plum wine with ice in glasses and entrees , raw pork under red lights in markets , pickles and fish sprinkled with chillies , sunsets seen through rainy windows , walls full of skateboards , colourful balls of yarn hanging on the walls . These were things that I can capture and observe in everyday life , and it’s these everyday things that inspire me . In this process , I would pay more and more attention to some colours in life , which also lays a foundation for my future study . In this process , I adopted different ways of painting . Some of them were drawn on the iPad . Electronic drawing is a very fast and convenient way for me to draw my inspiration and ideas at any time . I also used traditional methods such as watercolour , gouache paint , marker and oil paint stick . These practical painting methods are more practical , and I need to adjust the colour and control the strength and direction of the pen . It makes me more colour sensitive .
