In this task I tried to zoom in and find a focus point of a pattern from surroundings. I wanted to draw more realistic rather abstract but I couldn’t help myself are fine pattern manipulated we colour within each object that I was inspired by. In this exercise I have learnt to focus on shape and colours after finding a focus point of an object, instead of literally drawing anything that I see directly from my eyes to the paper. In my opinion this test was relevant be important and helpful because I have found my personal interest in ways of seeing by exploring materials during this exercise. I am interested in making them three-dimensional possibly by further experiments. I would like to colour and shape, Focus on those pattern and perhaps try manipulating them on fabric and maybe dying them.

For the task I decided to look at graffiti around London, especially in the area of Bricklane. I have collected multiple graffiti recordings and then zoomed in very closely on each image to the area that interested me the most, which then lead to observational drawings. Overall, i enjoyed the activity and exploring new ways of seeing objects which helps to freshen the perspective, however, next time I will try to experiment with my drawing style as I got a bit confused.

In this second drawing task we were expected to focus on texture and perspective. I approached the task by trying to add onto previous work- for example the last task was based on colour, this time I focused on both colour and the perspective of what I was drawing.

For the “way of seeing” section, I paid attention to things around me and the photos I’ve taken during the gallery visit recently.

The first 4 paintings are anything that I saw from my room, after I sketched the shape from one thing, I will move to the next thing I saw no matter what shape and what angle. There is no subject for them. I scanned them into photoshop and duplicate them into patterns.

I found my charging cables and my shoelace are also twisted, so I mixed them together into one drawing, sketched them with color pencils in different shades, and then duplicate them into the skeleton look. Inspired by that, I placed yarns and strings on a paper randomly, glued and sewed firmly. This experiment was used as the background of a pattern, above that, I layered a simple face pattern cut from a magazine.

Some of it is just playing with photoshop. I’m not familiar with it, so taking this opportunity to explore different effects. What I should try more next time would be 3D experiments but not only working on flat paper. I wasn’t inspired at first when I decided to make mix-media work, this is because I wasn’t thinking of it as a process. As I was working on the charging cable, I found out this is the part that I could develop.

Through my pattern exploration I decided to focus on the connection between small details being layered over larger abstract shapes. This way I was able to incorporate colour layering techniques underneath abstract line-work that has the potential to be extracted and developed as patterns. My inspiration initially came from nature, and I used these initial findings to move through realistic to abstract interpretations of shapes, and exploring combinations of backgrounds and foregrounds within each piece. In some cases I took inspiration from the textures created by the mediums I used and in other cases, I formed colour palettes based on collage work and observational findings. Through this exercise I discovered the potential that the motifs I chose held to become larger patterns when repeated, isolated and rearranged. Therefore, throughout my future pattern development stages I will be able to look at the infinite possibilities that any pattern/colour combination has to be interpreted in multiple ways. I now also understand the importance of the space created between markings as I experimented with the proximity of different patterns.

When I looked at the wood floor in my room, I drew these three paintings, the texture of the wood floor is very rich, each piece is totally different but similar, their lines are kaleidoscope, I reflected each line with different blue crayon, so that they look more layered.

These three paintings are all inspired by the objects in my room. The first one is the texture on the curtain, the second one is the texture of the wallpaper, and the third one is the tile in my bathroom. In this task, I especially like to look at the things around me in the zoom in way, so as to explore more textures and patterns in life.

I have been really into handmade necklaces this month, so I bought many beads for doing it. This texture is from one of beads, I think it is really special than others. Then I just used other elements to express the color and something inside the beads.

The painting from the left is inspired from the bubble wrap, I used lip gloss and Photoshop it to make the effect of reflecting light. The right one is inspired from my tote bag, I drew the patterns on it in my way.

This is my second task of Inrto 2 ‘Way of Seeing’. Whilst completing each art piece, I constantly had in mind the aim of this task, to be completely experimental and learn what ideas worked and to take them forward as a creative. Playing around with more mediums and different materials, meant I was engaging with capturing structure, texture, pattern and colour.

After analysing my art from task 1, I wanted to improve on using materials and different kinds of paper and techniques to create my outcomes. When I had completed majority of my art, I instantly noticed a difference. As using materials and different coloured paper made my work stand out to the eye.

Normally I love to work with the medium watercolour, to blend and bring colour and texture to my work. However, I used acrylic on black paper and began to become fond of the medium. I was painting textural leaves onto the black paper and loved that acrylic can be built up, on top of numerous other colours.

Another technique that I found enjoyable was ripping colours out of a magazine, to build texture and colour to create an image. I used a primary image of a sunrise and replicated it by building magazine colours and textures together.   

I did different samples with colour (wet on dry and wet on wet), I couldn’t find much stuffs to be inspired lately there has been a lot going on personally. So I just took some materials around me and experiment with them with the colours I see around me in my room and outside of my window, in my comfort zone. I also manupulate them in photoshop a little bit with my primary photos which I took in Hong Kong because I thought my home town relates to my comfort zone.

It’s difficult not to make big of a project that defines the start of what I regret to think of as the rest of my life. I know, little bit intense for a two week project. In 150 words imma attempt not to feel too sorry for myself. I didn’t enjoy this project. My inspiration- Orange by Orhan Pamuk- simply led me to a path of disappointment. I couldn’t and didn’t produce any work of note, I would suggest mostly down to my newfound awful time management and tendency to overcomplicate. I hope I have learnt to keep it simple, keep experimenting and stick to my aesthetic guns. As a preliminary and unnecessary excuse my lack of experimentation is down to my lack of (I want to say funding but it really is more like) motive to spend lots of coin on potentially useless equipment. I’m usually digital okay don’t moan. Hope that doesn’t sound as pathetic as it did to write.
